The game against Ponty was a must win game for Ton Pentre on Monday 17th May 2010 (at Afan Lido) as defeat would see them relegated not only to Division 2 but facing relegation for the first time in their long history. Ponty were looking at the game in a different light - climbing to eighth position having secured their survival against Dinas Powys earlier in the week.

Ponty hosted Dinas Powys  in the latest re-arranged Division One fixture at the Marston's Stadium Afan Lido on Saturday 15th May 2010. After the games at Dinas away last weekend and the Monday night game against Taffs Well also at the Marston's Stadium. Ponty failed to come away with any points from these two games so were keen to claim another 3 points and climb further up the table.

Ponty were looking for a reaction against Taffs Well on Monday 10th May 2010 following Saturdays disappointing defeat down at Dina Powys. Our thanks go to Afan Lido for agreeing to host this game.

The lads had a good old laugh before the kick-off against Dinas Powys on Saturday 8th May 2010 with a game of Ponty "donkey". The laughing soon stopped as Ponty somehow dominated but still struggled to take advantage of a poor Dinas Powys team.

Ponty made the long trip to Caerleon in a Welsh League Division One encounter on Wednesday 5th May 2010 looking for yet another 3 points on their travels to south-east Wales and to build on the performance against Caldicot last Saturday to bring all 3 points back to Ponty.

Ponty were looking to continue their recent good run against yet another side near the top of the table against Caldicot Town in a Welsh League Division One tie on Saturday 1st May 2010 at Caldicot. Caldicot were one of the leagues highest scoring sides so Ponty would have to be on top of their game to get anything out of this match.

In the fabulous and palatial surroundings of the Brewery Field, Ponty looked to continue their impressive run against a Bridgend Town side on Tuesday 27th April 2010 who were themselves fighting hard to get clear of the relegation zone.

Pontardawe struggled through their 7th game in 14 days and, despite some chances, could only manage a 1-1 draw with bottom club Caerleon on Saturday 24th April 2010 in a Welsh Division One encounter at The Recreation Ground

Ponty needed a win against Bridgend Town on Thursday 22nd April 2010 following defeat at home to Afan Lido on Monday but the game started in the worst possible way. After 10 or so minutes defender Steven Cox went over on his ankle with what looked like a nasty injury and limped out of the game to be replaced by Rob Fulford.

Pontardawe welcomed Afan Lido to the Recreation ground on Monday 19th April in what was their fifth game in 9 days. Afan Lido were second in Division One going into this game, trailing Goytre United by three points. Ponty had already played Goytre earlier in this marathon run of games, securing 1 point but ruing the chances that got away to take all 3 against a strong Goytre side.

On another warm spring day, Pontardawe played their fourth game this week, against another of the top sides Aberaman Athletic at the Rec on Saturday 17th April 2010. Ponty produced yet another outstanding performance in securing a valuable 3 points with a 4-0 victory.

The guys bounced back from Tuesday's disappointment against Cambrian & Clydach with an excellent performance against high flying Bryntirion Athletic on Thursday 15th April 2010 at the Recreation ground. A goal after 10 minutes from Dan McGrath was followed up by substitute Chris Allen 5 minutes before the break. Ponty had the better of the second half action, creating chance after chance but in the end ran out 2-0 winners to do the double over high flying Bryntirion.

Ponty were determined to build on the performance last Saturday against league leaders Goytre and for long periods of this game they looked the more likely to score against Cambrian and Clydach on the 13th April 2010 in a rearranged Welsh League Division One game Jon Coates was outstanding again and was influencing play whenever in possession

The first team returned home on the 10th April 2010 in a Welsh league Division One match against top of the table Goytre United to commence a very busy period and played extremely well in a  game that flowed from start to finish and was a great advert for the Welsh Football League.

With vivid memories of last years very young Neath side that visited the Recreation Ground in Reserve Division West and totally outplayed the Pontardawe eleven, Ponty were out not to repeat the result of last season again as that result ruined Ponty's chance at claiming the title in this game played on Saturday 13th March 2010.

The first team travelled to Aberaman on Friday 12th March 2010 in a Welsh League Division One encounter. Aberaman have excellent facilities and they deserve to be in the Welsh Premier league based on those alone but unfortunately the only comment that could be made about the pitch is that it should be on the front of Farmers Weekly !!!

The surface was the poorest one that Pontardawe have seen this season and needs some real attention if it is to provide a base for good flowing football.

Although unbeaten in Welsh League Division One since October the league position meant that Pontardawe Town had to start converting draws into wins with immediate effect and to their credit this is what happened with a good win against a battling Ely Rangers on Saturday 6th March 2010.

Ponty entertained Briton Ferry Llansawel in Reserve Division West on Saturday 27th February 2010 at the Recreation Ground, determined to put the horror show in the defeat at Britton Ferry Llansawel just before Christmas behind them.

Ponty entertained Reserve Division West local rivals Ammanford on the 13th February at the Recreation Ground. In a game that saw a lot of good passing football by both sides with Ponty's Luke Michaels getting a hat-trick and Ponty running out eventual  4-1 winners and claiming the three valuable points on offer.

Ponty took the short trip to Cwmamman on Saturday 6th February to play their local rivals in Reserve Division West. Cwmamman managed to nick some points off Ponty last season with two draws so a result at Cwmamman was vital for Ponty's push for the title this year.

Our thanks go to Afan Lido for agreeing to host the home match for Ponty against Garden Village in Reserve Division West on Wednesday 26th January 2010. On what turned out to be a great night for Pontardawe, both teams produced some good football on a difficult pitch which eventually saw Ponty run out 5-2 victors.

After a long layoff Ponty got back to winning ways against Goytre United in Reserve Division West on Saturday 23rd January 2010 with what turned out to be a resounding win.

From the first minute, the result was never in doubt as Pont started as they finished, totally dominating the game against a surprisingly poor Goytre United eleven.

In a game that never should have been played at Briton Ferry Llansawel in Reserve Division West on 19th December 2009 - the ref insisted that the pitch was just like a bone hard pitch during the summer !!,Ponty never really were up for this game as it was in doubt up until the kick off. The rock hard surface made playing any football difficult as the ball was bobbling everywhere and tackles that went to ground were prone to leaving their mark.

Not much to say about the game except that Ponty did not turn up and were promptly turned over on a disappointing day. Watch brief match highlights
here

Pontardawe entertained near rivals Ammanford Town in Round 2 of the Nathanial Sales Cup at the Recreation Ground on Saturday 5th December 2009. On a very wet pitch, entertaining football was produced by both sides with a wonder strike from Ammanfords Richard Lewis sealing victory. Pontardawe travelled to Ely Rangers on Tuesday 1st December in a Welsh League Division One encounter. Ponty ran out 3-1 winners through goals from Steffan Davies, Carl Owen and Dale Otten. Ponty dominated the majority of the game and were worthy winners. View a match report and link to the video highlights of the game here

Pontardawe Town entertained Llandudno Town in Round 3 of the FAW Welsh Cup on a very wet Saturday 31st October 2009. Pontardawe ran out 2-0 winners through goals by Carl Owen and Andrew Stokes. Apologies go to Carl who's opening goal was not recorded due to moisture within the camera preventing recording until approximately the 55th minute. On an emotionally charged day for all from Ponty following the death of Peter James the day before, Ponty entertained newcomers to Reserve Division West South Gower for their first visit to the Recreation Ground on Saturday 10th October 2009. An impeccable minutes silence in honour of Peter was held before kick off. View the match report along with all of the match action and goals here.

The "Man of the Match" went to Ianto for his contributions during the game with Ianto also getting a first for picking up the "Minge of the Match" award as well.

Peter James (Pontardawe Town FC)

Peter JamesIt is with regret that we announce that Peter James of Pontardawe passed away on Friday 12th October after a recent illness.

At the time of his passing Peter, aged 59, was our Youth Section Manager and Coach. He had been in this role at the club for over 14 years with great success. He has led teams to many successes including the Welsh Youth Cup as well as developing many of the current crop of players within the Welsh League System and Local Football.

Peter has also been our Reserve team manager in recent years leading the team to two successive runners up awards in the Welsh Reserve West Division and, in doing so, playing attractive football whilst continuing to develop youngsters many of whom now feature in the First team.

Peter has many friends within Welsh football, from his playing days through to the present, who will be sad to hear of his passing and we at Pontardawe Town will be looking to honour and thank Peter for everything he has done for Pontardawe Town in the years he has been at the club.

The First Team and Reserve Team have decided to mark this sad news with a minute's silence at tomorrow's games at Bettws and at home to South Gower respectively.

The Youth Section games at Les Croupiers (Under 18s) and Carmarthen Town (Under 19s) have been postponed.

Everyone at Pontardawe Town sends our condolences to his wife Susan, his son Mark and his daughter Donna together with Peter and Susan's grandson Alfie.

Gary Thomas
Secretary, Pontardawe Town FC

Ponty took the short trip to the Gnoll on Thursday 1st October in Reserve Division West to play a very young Neath side. This was always going to be a tough game for Ponty as this Neath team effectively ended Ponty's title challenge at the tail end of last season with a superb display at The Recreation Ground.

Gareth Govier was voted "Man of the Match"  with Dale Otten picking up the "coveted" "Minge of the Match" award.

A quick reminder that the August "Goal of the Month" voting closed on 1st October. The result was close with Arwel Rees the winner from Aled Whitelock who took second place. View the voting results here..

Ponty visited Garden Village on Saturday 26th September in their second Reserve Division West game of the season. Ponty deservedly took the 3 points on offer and now visit Neath Athletic on Thursday 1st October.

The "Man of the Match" award went to Marcus Evans for his contributions during the game. "Minge of the Match" went to Gareth Govier (something about if a salt cellar had salt in it - during post match meal !)

Ponty deservedly took the 3 points on offer and now visit Garden Village on the 26th September. The video highlights are well worth watching due to Andrew Stokes fabulous volley which gained all 3 points for Ponty.

The "Man of the Match" award could only go to Andrew Stokes for his contributions during the game. "Minge of the Match" went to Craig Spring.

Town welcomed Presteigne St Andrews to The Rec for this FAW 1st Round Cup tie on Saturday 12th September 2009. Presteigne had beaten Cwmamman Utd in the preliminary round and were looking for their second Welsh League scalp

A great first game of the season at the Recreation Ground for the first team and we thank Presteigne St Andrews for adding to an excellent day. We also thank our Match Day mascots Elliot Davies and Ethan Bartlett. Both lads play for our Under 9s and we hope they enjoyed the day with us.

Ponty were drawn in a very sparsely populated preliminary round of the Reserve Cup against Troedyrhiw. Ponty started this game on Saturday 5th September 2009 at the Recreation Ground in confident if slow fashion but soon started to dominate the game.

The Ponty "Man of the Match" was awarded to Owain with the "Minge of the Match" being "won" by Aled Whitelock as he did not know that Ianto's name was Ian after Ianto called "Ian's ball" and Aled promptly tacked Ianto !. How long have you been playing for Ponty Aled.........

The 1st teams disappointing start to the season continued at Goytre on Wednesday 19th August 2009 with some poor errors against a Goytre team who will be flattered by this scoreline.  Goytre took an early lead after 8 minutes with a goal for Richard Ryan. Town matched Goytre all over the field and an Andrew Stokes shot hit the post after 15 minutes but it took 38 minutes for the equaliser to come from Mark Nappieralla penalty after Goytre keeper Chris Curtis pulled Richie Evans back. Immediately Goytre took the lead again with a Dale Griffiths speculative effort.

The second half was poor from a Town perspective and Goytre took a 3-1 lead with another from Ryan but they were again pegged back by Ponty after Andrew Lewis's first goal for the club after 72 minutes. Amazingly Town again left Goytre in and Ryan got his hat trick. Just 5 minutes later, with Town the better side, Mark Nappieralla hit a brilliant penalty after Richie Evans was brought down in the box. Once again Goytre immediately scored with Dale Price getting their 5th. Again Town went on the attack but Ryan got his 4th of the game to give a final score of 6-3.
