View all of the contenders here The game against Ponty was a must win game for Ton Pentre on Monday 17th May 2010 (at Afan Lido) as defeat would see them relegated not only to Division 2 but facing relegation for the first time in their long history. Ponty were looking at the game in a different light - climbing to eighth position having secured their survival against Dinas Powys earlier in the week. View all of the goals and match action here Ponty made the long trip to Caerleon in a Welsh League Division One encounter on Wednesday 5th May 2010 looking for yet another 3 points on their travels to south-east Wales and to build on the performance against Caldicot last Saturday to bring all 3 points back to Ponty. View all of the goals and match action here Ponty were looking to continue their recent good run against yet another side near the top of the table against Caldicot Town in a Welsh League Division One tie on Saturday 1st May 2010 at Caldicot. Caldicot were one of the leagues highest scoring sides so Ponty would have to be on top of their game to get anything out of this match. After 10 or so minutes defender Steven Cox went over on his ankle with what looked like a nasty injury and limped out of the game to be replaced by Rob Fulford. View all of the goals and match action here Pontardawe welcomed Afan Lido to the Recreation ground on Monday 19th April in what was their fifth game in 9 days. Afan Lido were second in Division One going into this game, trailing Goytre United by three points. Ponty had already played Goytre earlier in this marathon run of games, securing 1 point but ruing the chances that got away to take all 3 against a strong Goytre side. View all of the goals and match action here On another warm spring day, Pontardawe played their fourth game this week, against another of the top sides Aberaman Athletic at the Rec on Saturday 17th April 2010. Ponty produced yet another outstanding performance in securing a valuable 3 points with a 4-0 victory. View all of the goals and match action here The guys bounced back from Tuesday's disappointment against Cambrian & Clydach with an excellent performance against high flying Bryntirion Athletic on Thursday 15th April 2010 at the Recreation ground. A goal after 10 minutes from Dan McGrath was followed up by substitute Chris Allen 5 minutes before the break. Ponty had the better of the second half action, creating chance after chance but in the end ran out 2-0 winners to do the double over high flying Bryntirion. View all of the goals and match action here Ponty were determined to build on the performance last Saturday against league leaders Goytre and for long periods of this game they looked the more likely to score against Cambrian and Clydach on the 13th April 2010 in a rearranged Welsh League Division One game Jon Coates was outstanding again and was influencing play whenever in possession View all of the goals and match action here The first team returned home on the 10th April 2010 in a Welsh league Division One match against top of the table Goytre United to commence a very busy period and played extremely well in a game that flowed from start to finish and was a great advert for the Welsh Football League. The Reserves played Cwmamman United in a
Reserve Division West game on Wednesday 7th April 2010 at the
Recreation Ground. The boys gained another 3 points in an impressive
performance in their chase for the title.
The first team travelled to Cambrian & Clydach Vale on
Saturday 27th March 2010 in a Welsh league Division One encounter .
With vivid memories of last years very young
Neath side that visited the Recreation Ground in
Reserve Division West and totally outplayed the
Pontardawe eleven, Ponty were out not to repeat the result of last
season again as that result ruined Ponty's chance at claiming the title
in this game played on Saturday 13th March 2010. The first team travelled to Aberaman on Friday 12th March 2010 in a Welsh League Division One encounter. Aberaman have excellent facilities and they deserve to be in the Welsh Premier league based on those alone but unfortunately the only comment that could be made about the pitch is that it should be on the front of Farmers Weekly !!! The surface was the poorest one that
Pontardawe have seen this season and needs some real attention if it is
to provide a base for good flowing football.
Although unbeaten in Welsh League
Division One since October the league position meant that
Pontardawe Town had to start converting draws into wins with immediate
effect and to their credit this is what happened with a good win against
a battling Ely Rangers on Saturday 6th March 2010.
Ponty entertained
Briton Ferry Llansawel in Reserve Division West
on Saturday 27th February 2010 at the Recreation Ground, determined to
put the horror show in the defeat at Britton Ferry Llansawel just before
Christmas behind them.
Ponty entertained Reserve Division West
local rivals Ammanford on the 13th February at the
Recreation Ground. In a game that saw a lot of good passing football by
both sides with Ponty's Luke Michaels getting a hat-trick and Ponty
running out eventual 4-1 winners and claiming the three valuable
points on offer.
Ponty took the short
trip to Cwmamman on Saturday 6th February to play their
local rivals in Reserve Division West. Cwmamman managed
to nick some points off Ponty last season with two draws so a result at
Cwmamman was vital for Ponty's push for the title this year.
Our thanks go
to Afan Lido for agreeing to host the home match for Ponty against
Garden Village in Reserve Division West on Wednesday
26th January 2010. On what turned out to be a great night for Pontardawe,
both teams produced some good football on a difficult pitch which
eventually saw Ponty run out 5-2 victors.
After
a long layoff Ponty got back to winning ways against Goytre United in
Reserve Division West on Saturday 23rd January 2010 with what turned out
to be a resounding win.
In
a game that never should have been played at
Briton Ferry
Llansawel in Reserve Division West
on 19th December 2009 - the ref insisted that the pitch was just like a
bone hard pitch during the summer !!,Ponty
never really were up for this game as it was in doubt up until the kick
off. The rock hard surface made playing any football difficult as the
ball was bobbling everywhere and tackles that went to ground were prone
to leaving their mark. Pontardawe entertained near rivals Ammanford Town in Round 2 of the Nathanial Sales Cup at the Recreation Ground on Saturday 5th December 2009. On a very wet pitch, entertaining football was produced by both sides with a wonder strike from Ammanfords Richard Lewis sealing victory. View a match report and link to the video highlights of the game here Pontardawe travelled to Ely Rangers on Tuesday 1st December in a Welsh League Division One encounter. Ponty ran out 3-1 winners through goals from Steffan Davies, Carl Owen and Dale Otten. Ponty dominated the majority of the game and were worthy winners. Pontardawe ran out 2-0 winners through goals by Carl Owen and Andrew Stokes. Apologies go to Carl who's opening goal was not recorded due to moisture within the camera preventing recording until approximately the 55th minute. On
an emotionally charged day for all from Ponty following the death of
Peter James the day before, Ponty entertained newcomers to
Reserve Division West South Gower
for their first visit to the Recreation Ground on Saturday 10th October
2009. An
impeccable minutes silence in honour
of Peter was held before kick off.

View video highlights of the goals from the Reserves last pre season friendly match against Swansea Senior League side Plough, played on Saturday 29th August 2009 (won 2-1) at the Leisure Centre here The 1st teams disappointing start to the season continued at Goytre on Wednesday 19th August 2009 with some poor errors against a Goytre team who will be flattered by this scoreline. Goytre took an early lead after 8 minutes with a goal for Richard Ryan. Town matched Goytre all over the field and an Andrew Stokes shot hit the post after 15 minutes but it took 38 minutes for the equaliser to come from Mark Nappieralla penalty after Goytre keeper Chris Curtis pulled Richie Evans back. Immediately Goytre took the lead again with a Dale Griffiths speculative effort. The second half was poor from a Town perspective and Goytre took a 3-1 lead with another from Ryan but they were again pegged back by Ponty after Andrew Lewis's first goal for the club after 72 minutes. Amazingly Town again left Goytre in and Ryan got his hat trick. Just 5 minutes later, with Town the better side, Mark Nappieralla hit a brilliant penalty after Richie Evans was brought down in the box. Once again Goytre immediately scored with Dale Price getting their 5th. Again Town went on the attack but Ryan got his 4th of the game to give a final score of 6-3.
