Welsh Football League Division One
Weather - Raining / Cold The lads had a good old laugh before the kick-off with a game of Ponty "donkey". The laughing soon stopped as Ponty somehow dominated but still struggled to take advantage of a poor Dinas Powys team. Ponty created some chances but failed to convert during the first half with the teams level at 0-0 at the interval. Ponty again continued to dominate without reward during the early second half until Chris Allen sneaked one past the Dinas defence to make it 1-0 Ponty. Dinas Powys now started to press and when Ben in goal for Town dropped a cross it left the Dinas player with an open goal which he did not miss. Ponty were now pegged back 1-1 and failed to get out of 1st or 2nd at best gear. Chances came but Ponty lacked the clinical touch to see off Dinas Powys. Disaster struck for Ponty when following a poor referee decision against Gary Taylor, the resulting free kick was not dealt with by the Ponty defence and the ball ended up in the back of the net. Dianas were now desperate to hang onto their 2-1 lead and started to look a bit shaky again. Carl Owen used his pace several times to get around the back of the Dinas defence but Ponty again lacked the clinical touch. In the dying seconds from loose play, Gareth Govier played the ball through to Steffan who was left one on one with the Dinas goalkeeper but again the clinical touch was missing and Steff put the ball wide from less than 12 yards out. From the goal kick, the referee ended this frustrating game for Ponty. Definitely a case of 3 points lost in the quest for survival. Watch match highlights and all of the goals here
