Town welcomed Presteigne St Andrews to The Rec for this FAW 1st Round Cup tie. Presteigne had beaten Cwmamman Utd in the preliminary round and were looking for their second Welsh League scalp.

After 4 minutes the good size crowd saw Steffan Davies put Town 1 up following a good run on the left by Carl Owen. Owen, who terrorized the Presteigne defence all game, was fed the ball by Jon Coates, took it to the bye line and delivered a teasing cross which Steffan turned in right under the nose of the Presteigne keeper. Within 9 minutes the Mid Wales side equalised from a corner. Richard South took a blow to the ahead but the referee failed to stop the game and Shane Sutton scrambled home from 6 yards giving Luke Probert in Town's goal no chance. The rest of the first half was a ding dong affair but with the better of the chances falling to Town. Some woeful shooting and confident keeping by the Presteigne keeper kept the score at 1-1 as the teams went into the half time break.

The second half was just as exciting and Presteigne missed some good chances early on. On 60 minutes Town introduced Mark Nappieralla for Daniel Thomas and this seemed to give Town the edge. 'Nappa's' speed allowed him to take on the Presteigne left back and on 75 minutes he delivered a low cross for captain Jon Coates to head home. Five minutes later Town were 3-1 up following another quick move up the right side and it was Mark Nappieralla who hit a great strike from the edge of the 18 yard box giving the Presteigne keeper no chance. Finally, and on 89 minutes, Man of the Match Carl Owen got his reward for his efforts with a scrappy goal from 6 yards.

A great first game of the season at the Recreation Ground for the first team and we thank Presteigne St Andrews for adding to an excellent day.We also thank our Match Day mascots Elliot Davies and Ethan Bartlett. Both lads play for our Under 9s and we hope they enjoyed the day with us.
