Welsh Football League Division One
Weather - Dry/ Cold Our thanks once again go to Afan Lido for agreeing to host this game for Pontardawe Town Ponty were looking for a reaction against Taffs Well following Saturdays disappointing defeat down at Dina Powys. Things got off to a bad start when within the first 10 minutes Ponty went 1-0 down. Things got even worse when the Taffs centre half picked the ball up well in his own half, ran well over half the pitch length without being closed down before Andy Lewis confronted him but he managed to slot the ball under Ben to make it 2-0 to Taffs Well after only 22 minutes. Ponty struggled to contain a now confident Taffs Well who at times had enough time on the ball to make it look easy. Things got even worse for Ponty when minutes before half time Dale Otten got booked and then seconds later received a very harsh second yellow and was off. Ponty went into the half time break 2-0 down and 1 man down. Ponty started the second half with the fight and spirit that Steve's half time team talk obviously demanded as just 2 minutes into the second half, Steff was brought down in the box for the referee to award a spot kick to Ponty. Nappa stepped up to the mark again but put the chance high over the bar. Ponty battled hard but against 11 men it was always going to be an uphill task. Taffs Well extended their lead mid way through the second half to make it 3-0 but despite another Ponty revival for 10 minutes or so, rounded off their win with a fourth just before the full time whistle. Ponty must regroup for the next challenge against Dinas Powys on Saturday 15th May. Watch match highlights and all of the goals here
