2010/11
Many thanks go to Garden Village for agreeing to host this game for us, for as usual, town finished their season as usual .... a home game at someone else's ground .... Watch match action and all of the goals here As for the game it continued an eight game without defeat stretch which is an outstanding record in this division. It is just a shame that we haven't got a few more games left as this form is truly champion winning form The game started well for Town with Chris Allen breaking through after just 3 minutes but unfortunately he wasn't able to beat the advancing keeper. Immediately at the other Rangers showed their intent with a header by Ryan Buckman which was saved at pinpoint range by Steve Reeve in the Town goal. This was end to end football and Town's Tom Blackburn hit the bar after a good run and cross by Arwel Rees gave the youngster space in the box. Tom was immediately back in the action with a run and a cross to Chris Allen whose shot was tipped over the bar by the keeper. Just 6 minutes later, with 27 minutes gone, Town got their first goal when a Chris Allen cross was met on the half volley from 12 yards by Antonio Facciuto who waited until the last game for his first goal for Town. Town were dominant now and after 31 minutes a Garry Taylor free kick was headed on by Steven Cox to Chris Allen who performed an acrobatic overhead kick to put the home side 2 up. Just 2 minutes later another Garry Taylor free kick was powerfully headed home by Steven Cox for his second goal of the season. Town went into the half time break winning 3-0 with an expectation from the home support that a further hatful was due in the second half. It was not to be as a resurgent Rangers side came out and despite Chris Allen's effort being ruled out for offside early on it was Rangers who dominated the next 20 minutes with Josh Keepings hitting the bar and, on 54 minutes, Jason Hatch pulling one back with a good strike. On 69 minutes Ryan Buckman, the Rangers No.9, had what looked like a good goal disallowed but this was possibly as a result of his behaviour which was starting to be a concern for the officials in respect of off the ball incidents and general attitude. On 75 minutes Rangers had a further chance when Josh Keepings brought out another excellent save from Steve Reeve The last 15 minutes though belonged to Town as they started to dominate once again and finished the season off with style. A Darren Pratley type effort from in his own half by Garry Taylor saw the visiting keeper scuttling back to tap the ball past the post. Just minutes later Town's Luke Borelli hit a great shot which just crept over the bar. Finally on 88 minutes the 4th goal came and it was for Chris Allen who headed home a Garry Taylor corner. Another excellent performance from the Pontardawe Town players who have done themselves and this club proud this season. A 4th place finish with over 50 points is testament to the effort they, and Steve Price's coaching team, have put into this season. The lads now go into Sunday's Futsal tournament with a view to finishing the season with some Silverware and afterwards they deserve a long rest before Steve gets them back for pre-season training...... Well Done Everyone !
Ponty
travelled east to play Cambrian & Clydach determined to avenge the 3-0
defeat inflicted by Cambrian at the Rec some weeks ago.
On a very, very hard bone dry and bobbly pitch a young Ponty side which
saw Grandpa Stokes the elder statesman for the evening started well
against a Cambrian side determined to do everything at pace. This aspect
of Cambrians game nearly caught Ponty out (it caught the cameraman out a
couple of times) as they were quick to take throw-ins and free kicks
hoping to catch Ponty off guard. Ponty adapted to this quickly and
created a couple of great chances to go ahead some of which only
required a gamble or touch to take full advantage. Ponty learnt how to
deal with the threat posed by 6ft 6” Michael Jones the Cambrian centre
forward. It was Jones who had proved so effective down at the Rec for
Cambrian scoring twice for the visitors. Ponty played some great
football during the first half with Chris Allen showing his continuing
good form and strength on the ball up front for Ponty. Half time came
with the score level 0-0.
Ponty pressed the visitors hard during the early stages of the second
half with Gary Taylor and Stuart Hoskins taking some hard challenges
from the Cambrian midfield. It was Cambrian who went ahead after about
15 minutes of the half. A ball ricocheted to a Cambrian player who
struck the ball outside of the box which then bounced up in front of
town keeper Steve Reeves and into the net. Ponty rallied and pressed,
playing some neat, flowing football in the process. Ponty deservedly
levelled the game with about 20 minutes remaining when Stuart Hoskins
headed home a Gary Taylor free kick. Ponty had to endure some intense
Cambrian pressure but had a couple of chances late on, hitting Cambrian
on the break. Grandpa Stokes saw his shot go wide from a great flowing
move which would have been a great way for Ponty to avenge that earlier
defeat by Cambrian at home but both sides had to settle for a draw.
This was a great performance by the Ponty lads which see’s Ponty
comfortable in 4th place with two games remaining.

The first half belonged to the home side who played the more flowing football especially down the flanks where Tom Blackburn, making his first start at this level, terrorising the West End full backs. Town were looking comfortable at the back with Steve Cox and Luke Harris, together with Stuart Hoskins in midfield, dominating aerial battle. Just on the half hour it was another impressive run by young Tom Blackburn that resulted in the game's first goal. It was goal to savour and one that is worth a watch on the video (see link below). This gave the home side a real boost and they finished the first half strongly including a fair shout for a penalty that was not awarded by referee Kris Hames. As the sun started to go down it must have been an impressive half time team talk by visiting manager Donny Smitham as West End came out all guns blazing and threw everything at Town for the rest of the game. There were plenty of nervous moments but Steve Reeve in goal held out with another excellent performance until the 58 minutes when Neil Phillips equalised from a free kick which was slotted home low down to Reeve's right. The rest of the game was an evenly contested, sometimes feisty, affair with both sides giving their all. No further goals but lots of incident that certainly kept the referee busy but in fairness there was nothing really bad that happened, it was simply a competitive local derby. A draw was probably a fair result overall and both sides went away in good spirits for a well deserved pint. Watch all of the match action and goals here
Watch all of the match action here 1st team v Caldicot Town - Tuesday 19th April 2011 A very tight game first half resulted in stalemate at the interval. The match continued in much the same fashion until right at the end - Caldicot Town were denied a goal in the 88th minute with Ponty sneaking a winner in the 89th minute with Chris Allen flicking home a near post cross from Gary Taylor. Job done with Ponty doing the double over Caldicot and more importantly another 3 points Watch all of the match action and the "dramatic" ending to the match here
After a poor first half by our usual standards we only sprang into life early in the second half after Richard French gave the visitors a lead they probably deserved on the balance of play after 50 minutes. Straight after that goal Town seemed to step up a gear and started to cause the visitors no end of problems. On 65 minutes a cross was deflected into his own net by John Meacock bring the sides level. Goytre United did push on and were thwarted by some excellent defending from Steve Lewis and the outstanding Luke Harris. On 87 minutes, just as the game looked to end in a draw, Garry Taylor stepped up and hit a free kick into the top corner to give the 3 points to the home side. Bets had been placed on whether the shot would clear the bank and enter the canal but Taylor came up trumps and the Town lads celebrated into the night. One absentee was Goytre United's Robert Cooke and we wish him well in his recovery from illness. A special mention for Garwyn Davies and his officials who were also excellent on the night. M Hibbs, C Allen, A Rees 1st team v Cambrian & Clydach 2nd April 2011 Not much to say about this performance except to say that the Ponty lads looked tired and never really started to get going. Ponty went 1-0 down mid way through the first half when Lee Matthews found himself with acres of space just inside the Ponty box and lobbed the advancing Reevo. This is how it stayed until half time. Ponty could not contain the movement off the ball of Cambrian and Clydach - a ball was swept in from the Ponty right and 6ft 6" Michael Jones rose above the Ponty lads to nod home off the far post to make it 2-0. Good movement again down the Ponty right gave the Cambrian player ample time and room to cross for Michael Jones to meet it near post for 3-0. Prior to this Ponty had what appeared to be a perfectly good goal by Stuart Hoskins ruled out - it was a cracking powerful header at the far post that left most baffled as to why it had been ruled out. Ponty tried to press but could not create any further meaningful chances and the game ended 3-0 to the visitors. by Ray Parker - courtesy of Welsh league Site Bryntirion maintained their 13-point lead in Division
One and with five games remaining the championship line is in sight but
four are away from home, starting at Garden Village on Saturday.
Bryntirion's one home clash is their final fixture of the season,
against Cwmbran Celtic. Bryntirion, completing the double having won 4-0 away, made a stunning start with two goals in the opening 15 minutes. And they were quality finishes from Anthony Rawlings (five minutes) and skipper Paul Evans, on the quarter hour mark. It placed Bryntirion well down the victory road - and, more importantly, they had carried out the plan laid down by manager Francis Ford. The pasting Bryntirion had taken from Barry - 6-0 at Jenner Park last Friday - was haunting the table topping side and Ford said: "We knew it was important to start well and prove that it was a one-off freak result. The players gave me the perfect response against a good Pontardawe side. It was a great start." Pontardawe, not at full strength, were missing striker Matthew Hibbs, playing for Swansea University in a crunch clash with the students of Cardiff, and understandably they took time to recover. Steve Price, Pontardawe manager, said: "We started slowly and if you give away goals against the league's best team you will find it very difficult. The first goal was deflected and we should have dealt better with the second goal. We could have defended better but you can see why they are top of the table." But Pontardawe finally got their reward when, out of the blue, Stuart Hoskins struck a spectacular angled shot from distance. It was the perfect lift close to half-time but it was Bryntirion whose plans for a text-book start to the second half worked so well with Rawlings getting a second goal, a sparkling header from a right cross by Ian Turner. It was a real hammer blow for Pontardawe, one from which they never really recovered. Bryntirion substitute Adam Carpenter was quite an influence when he came on in the second-half, firstly causing an awkward moment for Pontardawe goalkeeper Steve Reeve with a deflected shot and then his telling free-kick was deflected past Reeve by the unfortunate Hoskins. Bryntirion certainly deserved their win but the three-goal margin was a raw deal for the hard-working Pontardawe side but they could not match the home side in attack. Garden Village v 1st Team - Thursday 24th March 2011 A spirited second-half performance by First Division bottom markers Garden Village earned them a valuable point against Derby rivals Ponty - only their second game under the impressive new lights at Stafford Common. The game started well for the Ponty boys who almost bossed the vast majority of the first half. Bottom of the table Village took some time to settle down and produce anything meaningful. Ponty took the lead on 27th minute when a Gary Taylor free kick was flicked home at the near post by Matthew Hibbs. Ponty were denied a second just a couple of minutes before half time when the Village keeper Mark Snell produced a good save from a Mark Napperialla free kick. Half time came with the Ponty lads looking comfortable with a 1-0 lead. Village started the second half in a much better frame of mind and threw off the problems they apparantly had during the first half. It was Ponty who were on the back foot for long periods of the second half having being forced into errors by a now determined Village side. Village got their equaliser through former Ponty player Craig Spring on 82 minutes who latched onto a loose ball in the 6 yard box to smash home a deserved equaliser. Despite Ponty's best efforts they had to settle for a draw. The point gained down at Village has lifted the Ponty lads into 4th place in Division One. Pontardawe manager Steve Price said: "We were very much in control at half-time but credit to Garden Village they showed a lot of passion in the second-half and deserved to equalise and a draw was probably a fair result." Garden Village manager Ceri Griffiths said: "We showed them a little bit too much respect in the first-half. But in the second-half we got a bit tighter and applied more pressure and put an extra man up front. It was nice to get a point but when you at the bottom Lady Luck doesn't shine on all too often, but hopefully we have turned the corner." *Quotations courtesy of Ray Parker and Welsh league Site at http://www.welshleague.org.uk/latest_news_3.htm#STALEMATE_AT_THE_COMMON Watch all of the match action and goals here Garden Village: Mark Snell; Gerwyn Griffiths, Jack Jenkins, Dave Evans, Steve Bater, Gareth Jones, Richard Cleverley, Craig Spring, Craig Burgess, Robert Shannon, Daniel Lancey. nother trip east an another 3 points for Ponty from what turned out to be a very scrappy game. Its the sign of a good side however to come away with 3 points from these scrappy games. Ponty looked all at sorts during parts of the first half and this was characterised by the manner in which the Caldicot goal on 25 minutes was conceded with the forward charging down Reevo's attempted clearance. Ponty struggled at time and there did not seem the same flow and pattern to their game in recent weeks - this could be explained by the lack of 3 regular midfield players but with the depth of the Ponty squad this should not be a problem. Ponty drew level just before half time when Gary Taylor swung in a corner that the Caldicot player standing on the line headed upwards into his own goal. was it going in anyway - Gary will say definitely so the dodgy goal panel has not met , so the goal gets chalked up to Gary. Ponty went into the half time break 1-1. There is a different camera angle during the second half as it proved impossible to see what was being recorded during the first half due to the strong sun. Ponty continued to chance their arm at times during the second half but battled all the way with a Caldicot Town side that have enjoyed a good run of form of late. Matthew Hibbs got Ponty's second and eventual winner on 79 minutes, heading home a cross from Nappa. Ponty held firm under strong pressure to take another 3 points from their travels. Onwards and upwards for the Ponty lads who now sit 5th in the league after this result. Watch all of the match action and goals here Pontardawe Town

Ponty are in a good run of form at the moment and took this renewed confidence into the game against Cwmbran Celtic. Ponty got off to the best of starts when Mark Nappieralla angled a shot around the Cwmbran goalkeeper on 4 minutes. Some tough tackling and a little niggle later saw Stuart Hoskins put Ponty 2-0 up and that's how it stayed until the half-time break. Ponty started the second half much as they started the first half and were the better side. Ponty's eventual dominance was rounded off with a 10 minute hat-trick by Matthew Hibbs. The game was marred by an off the ball incident that was not caught on camera but obviously incensed the Ponty lads as an instruction seemed to come from the sidelines. This resulted in two red cards, one for each side ( Luke Borelli for Pontardawe) following the referee consulting with his assistant. Ponty fully deserved this victory and the confidence that is now flowing through the team can only push us on up the league positions. Ponty once again make the long trip east on Saturday 19th March and take on Caldicot Town and will be looking to come away with yet another 3 points. Once again, Ponty made the trip east to play mid-table Taffs Well. Ponty had debutant Kieran Hayes in at centre half who settled quickly. Chances were few and far between until Kieran rose for a header from a corner on 30 minutes which eventually ended up in the back of the net having taken a couple of deflections before hitting a Taffs Well player and crossing the line. The dodgy goals committee has sat and debated the award of the goal but eventually decided to award it to Kieran. Taffs Well responded, putting Ponty under some pressure and eventually drew level on 37 minutes when a Taffs Well player was allowed some freedom to head home at the far post. However, much to the Ponty players credit they picked themselves up and on the stroke of half time Matthew Hibbs shot home to put Ponty 2-1 up at the half time break. The second half saw efforts by both sides in a keenly fought battle. Taffs Well put Ponty under considerable pressure in the last 5 minutes but the Ponty lads held firm to secure another 3 points. Ponty had several contenders for Man of The Match with Stuart Hoskins having yet another influential game in the centre of the park and debutant Kieran Hayes also putting in a noteworthy performance. When the votes were counted however Andrew Stokes emerged as winner. Watch all of the match action and goals here Pontardawe Town

Coates, M Hibbs, S Hoskins Caerau Ely v 1st team - Saturday 5th March 2011 Ponty made the trip east to take on Caerau Ely in this Division One encounter. Ponty have been in good form over the last couple of weeks and were keen to take this into this game. Ponty started well but could not trouble the home keeper in the early stages. Both sides seemed to struggle to come to terms with a very uneven pitch. Strong challenges were made in a keenly fought encounter between two middle table teams. Ponty made the breakthrough at the perfect time - just before half time. Arwel Rees fed a ball out wide to the Ponty right back Andrew Stokes who played a ball into the box that Hibbsy put away having latched onto the ball when the home centre half failed to deal with it. Ponty went into the half time break deservedly 1-0 up. The second half again saw some strong challenges from both sides. The referee dealt with these dishing out the mandatory yellow cards, but the referee and one linesman made some dubious calls that baffled both sets of supporters and managers during this half. The game came to light when Caerau got the equaliser on 75 minutes when the Caerau forward lobbed a header over the town keeper. Caerau pressed and went ahead through an unfortunate own goal by Luke Harris on 90 minutes. Ponty had made some changes prior to this, brining on Mark Nappieralla for the injured Declan John and replacing Matthew Hibbs with Chris Allen. Ponty went all out to get something which they deserved and threw on an extra forward in James Pickup. The tactics worked as Ponty put the home defence under tremendous pressure. Deep into injury time Arwel Rees crossed from the left and found an unmarked Chris Allen at the far post to slot home Ponty's deserved equaliser. Barely 30 seconds after the restart the referee blew for full time. This was another battling display by Ponty with Luke Harris outstanding in the back for Ponty with Stuart Hoskins also outstanding in midfield where his no nonsense tackling was a feature of the game. Ponty travel east again on Tuesday 8th March to face Taffs Well and in this form they must be looking to come away with all 3 points. Coates, M Hibbs, D John, S Hoskins 1st Team v Aberaman Athletic 19th February 2011 The first half was a decent one with both sides intent on attacking football. With Declan John and, new keeper, Steve Reeve making their debuts Town had a few chances but couldn't hit the target and it was the visitors who took the lead on the stroke of half time with a goal from Jon Phillips. In the second half Town looked sharper so the assumption was that the half time talk had worked and this was confirmed when Luke Harris headed home after 60 minutes. This could go down as an own goal but I am sure Luke would have something to say about this. The visiting keeper was by now a very busy guy and just 10 minutes later Town took the lead after Greg Palmer was sent off and Garry Taylor hit home the penalty . Aberaman fought bravely but it was Town who finished the game strongest and moved up to 6th in the table with another deserved 3 points. As the second half started it was obvious that Ponty had not got out of the changing rooms when Josh Bell shot in from close range to put Barry 2 goals in front. Finally Ponty woke up and started to use the width of the pitch and the breakthrough cam on 57 minutes when Stuart Hoskins slotted in from about 15 yards to give the visitors some hope. Just 10 minutes later and the hopes were raised further when the home left back, Lewis James, was dismissed for his second poor tackle on Luke Borelli. But the home side had not read the script and on 71 minutes Ryan Jenkins capitalised on some poor defending to give the home side a surprising 3-1 lead. Again Ponty went on the attack and with the 1 man advantage it took just 4 minutes for the game to put back in the balance as Chris Allen scored from close range. Then, with under 10 minutes to go, an excellent challenge from Hoskins saw the ball roll out to Jon Coates who delivered to the far post for Luke Borelli to bravely head the equaliser. Just minutes later another excellent cross, this time from Matt Hibbs, saw Ponty's Mark Nappieralla just beaten close in by brave Barry Town defending. Surprisingly it was Barry Town who finished the strongest with a number of corners but these were well dealt with and the game ended in a 3-3 draw. This was a game full of skill and entertainment although the home crowd spent most of their energy criticising Mr Dyson the referee for the evening who was seen to be the villain on the night. On a heavy pitch neither team were able to gain any visible advantage but it was Town who got the upper hand with a Jon Coates tap in from 4 yards after good work from Luke Borelli on the right. Unfortunately, just 3 minutes, later a silly free kick on the edge of the Town box was not cleared and the home team levelled from Chris Hole. The rest of the first half was pretty even although the referee, Eddie King, was kept alert by strong tackles from the home side's Sam Brown and the visitor's Andrew Stokes. Early in the second half Arwel Rees was replaced by Mark Nappieralla which brought a fresh impetus to the Town attack but it was bad news after 69 minutes when Town lost captain Steve Cox to what looked like a serious hamstring injury. As the time run out the good crowd were probably expecting a draw but up stepped Kieron Cullen to give the home team a second goal, and ultimately the win, despite an excellent lob from Luke Borelli on 89 minutes which beat former Town keeper Johnny Martin but it hit the bar. Only some desperate tackling by Corries early on kept them out and the game then started to level out. Corries's Layton Maxwell was beginning to boss the midfield with excellent distribution. Nevertheless Town still looked dangerous and an oustanding run from Andrew Stokes, who beat a number of the Corries midfield, ended with a cross from Luke Borelli that was finished well by Arwel Rees giving the home team the lead. The rest of the first half was an even affair in what was an entertaining game for the small crowd. Just after half time it was noticeable that the Corries bench was very quiet and a number of their players started arguing with each other. This gave Town a boost and after 53 minutes a low cross from Arwel Rees was met low down by Jon Coates who headed Town into a 2-0 lead. This resulted in a very vocal inquest by all of the Corries players which was made worst just 2 minutes later when Jon Coates hit a cross from the left, after some great work by Garry Taylor, that was met perfectly by Luke Borelli who headed the home side into a 3-0 lead. Town threatened to run away with things but in fairness to the visitors they stuck at it and twice brought excellent saves from Town's Ryan Lewis as the home side protected their clean sheet. A great game and a great win which was well marshalled, as always, by Pembrokeshire's Jon Twigg. Both sides showed a willingness to attack from the first whistle and after just 8 minutes Matthew Hibbs latched on to some poor defending by Bridgend to slot the ball comfortably past Bridgend keeper Neil Thomas to give the home side the lead. The half continued with Bridgend slightly on top as they manufactured space in midfield but chances were few and far between with home keeper Ryan Lewis not really tested. It was Pontardawe who got the ball in the net next but the goal was ruled marginally offside but this was another scare for the visitors. The next incident feature the much travelled Richard Ryan who was lucky not to get a yellow card for a dive in the Pontardawe box when challenged by Luke Harris. On 25 minutes though the visitors got the leveller when Rameer Outlaw latched on to a cross and steered the ball through a number of players. Pontardawe then had a second goal disallowed once again for offside. Just before half time a young dog entered the field of play and caused a short, but entertaining, delay to the game. At this time a Bridgend player was seen to lash out a cruel kick at the dog which was seen by most people and soon the same player threatened a spectator who raised an objection to this incident. Pontardawe Town are currently investigating the matter, including video evidence, and will progress as appropriate. The second half was an exciting affair with both teams going for the win and, as the weather got colder, the small crowd were warmed up with some quality and competitive football. Pontardawe's Mark Nappieralla, who replaced Luke Borrelli early in the second half, tested keeper Thomas with a 25 yard shot whilst at the other end only some last ditch defending kept the visitors out. A further incident, in which the home team's Andrew Stokes was clearly poked in the eye deliberately by Outlaw went unpunished by the officials, threatened to turn the game nasty but subsequent good refereeing by Nathan Mullock kept a lid on things. A late substitution by Bridgend saw former Pontardawe player, Dale Otten, come on and he immediately caused difficulties including a 30 yard swerving shot that hit the bar. This definitely deserved a goal and he followed this up with a cross from the outside of his boot to Richard Ryan who was unable to secure the points for the visitors. As the game went into injury time there was no let up and on 94 minutes Bridgend Town took the points with a short range effort from Grant Thomas which gave the visitors all 3 points when a draw was probably the fairest result. An entertaining game played at a high standard with good skill and pace which was well managed by referee Nathan Mullock and his assistants, Dave Kennedy and Paul Meredit. The pitch was deemed playable and that's where the good news for Ponty ended. Ponty never seemed to get going in this game and went behind on 33 minutes with a shot from outside the Ponty area sneaking in the near post. Ponty went into the half time break 1-0 down. Ponty pressed and had more of the game in the second half and were denied two penalty claims for hand ball . Steffan Davies came close to getting Ponty back on level terms in the 65th minute, but somehow the keeper turned his effort around the post. Ponty battled but never found the rhythm to seriously trouble Ely. In the dying minutes, a free kick half way in the Ponty half was put out for a Ponty throw-in but from this, Ely won the ball back and their substitute striker put his chance away to make it 2-0 Ely in the 90th minute. Immediately from the restart the referee blew for full time. Another disappointment for Ponty who must now dig deep as they did last year with the games in hand to drag themselves away from the bottom half of the table. A strong and efficient Afan Lido side travelled to the Swansea Valley and immediately took control of the game with a 4th minute close range tap in by Matthew Herman. This was a gift to Lido following mistakes in defence. Lido had the upper hand for most of the half and increased their lead with a 20 yard strike from Andrew Mumford and then, following another defensive mix up, Gavin Jones was gifted a goal. To their credit Town continued to battle and pulled one back with a well taken free kick by Mark Nappieralla. The second half was a more even contest in which Town played better and caused Lido a few problems. The turning point was a penalty by newly signed Sam Wade which would have made the scoreline 3-2 but Lido's keeper Chris Curtis saved down to his right. The final nail in the coffin was as a result of another defensive error by Town which allowed Mumford to get his second Town move on
to League Cup duties next week and will be looking to improve our
fortunes when we travel up to Llanwern on Saturday for a 2:00pm kick
off. A DVD of the game is available Pontypridd Town v 1st team FAW Cup Rnd 1 Sat. 11th September 2010 Ponty made the journey east to take on Pontypridd in round 1 of this seasons FAW Cup. Ponty started well and created a couple of chances in the first 5 minutes which they failed to take. Pontypridd are a physical side and at times the Ponty lads had difficulty in dealing with their direct "physicality" shall we call it. Pontypridd took the lead when their number 10 headed home. Shortly afterwards Andy Lewis took a cynical elbow to the back of the head from the Pontypridd number 10 and required lengthy treatment before he could resume. Ponty went into the half time break 1 -0 down. Andy Lewis did not return for the second half with Stokesy taking his place, forcing a rejig at the back for Ponty. Pontypridd continued with their physical game but scored a very good second goal when a runner was not fully tracked and latched onto a great through ball to turn the Ponty right back Luke and slot the ball passed the Ponty keeper Ryan to make it 2-0. Ponty were awarded a penalty when Stefan was brought down by the Pontypridd keeper but Luke Harris's kick was saved. As the game drew to a close frustration was etched on the Ponty players faces but they were not to repeat the start of last years great cup run. To the Muppet sitting behind the camera and who complained at every Pontardawe tackle...and had a comment about every referring decision that went against them, take a look at some of the Pontypridd tackles and judge for yourself from the video if the referee was right after all... I think you will find he did quite well. Watch the match action and all of the goals here A DVD of the game is available 1st team v Bryntirion Athletic - Saturday 4th September 2010 Probably the less said about this performance the better. Everyone was expecting a competitive display following the win at Goytre during mid week but what transpired was a bad day at the office for the Ponty 11. This is not to take anything away from the Bryntirion team who hassled and pressed the Ponty lads the whole 90 minutes. Ponty went into the half time break 2-0 down and shortly after the second half started Bryntirion scored their third. Bryntirion's 4th came in the closing stages and wrapped up a vey good performance for them. There is no doubt that Ponty must get over this performance and get over it quickly and look to bounce back in the cup at Pontypridd Town next saturday. Watch all of the gaols and match action here Goytre Utd v 1st Team Wednesday 1st September 2010
Ponty opened the campaign with a well deserved victory over last seasons
champions Goytre on their home turf. Ponty were a bit shaky the first
half but, in the words of Steve "absolutely battered them" the second
half. A fantastic start to the season and a well fought 3 points.
Chris Allen turned the game when he came on as an early second half
substitute.
