Ponty started the new season against last seasons champions Goytre on their home turf. Goytre lost a lot of players after the final game of last season and would be no walk over's this season either - they proved this by their first half performance in which they forced errors from the Ponty 11 and eventually took the lead from the penalty spot after Luke Harris had fouled in the area. Richard French converted the spot kick to give Goytre a half time lead 1-0.

Ponty started the second half with Steve's words ringing in their ears. early second half substitute Chris Allen nodded Ponty level and then barely 3 minutes later put Ponty ahead after latching onto a long clearance by the Ponty keeper Ryan to slot it past the advancing Goytre keeper. Ponty then kept up the pressure to see the game out 2-1 winners. A fabulous start and the lads can be happy with their second half display.
