Weather - sunshine and showers Ponty made the journey east to take on Pontypridd in round 1 of this seasons FAW Cup. Ponty started well and created a couple of chances in the first 5 minutes which they failed to take. Pontypridd are a physical side and at times the Ponty lads had difficulty in dealing with their direct "physicality" shall we call it. Pontypridd took the lead when their number 10 headed home. Shortly afterwards Andy Lewis took a cynical elbow to the back of the head (caught on camera) from the Pontypridd number 10 and required lengthy treatment before he could resume. Ponty went into the half time break 1 -0 down. Andy Lewis did not return for the second half with Stokesy taking his place, forcing a rejig at the back for Ponty. Pontypridd continued with their physical game but scored a very good second goal when a runner was not fully tracked and latched onto a great through ball to turn the Ponty right back Luke and slot the ball passed the Ponty keeper Ryan to make it 2-0. Ponty were awarded a penalty when Stefan was brought down by the Pontypridd keeper but Luke Harris's kick was saved. As the game drew to a close frustration was etched on the Ponty players faces but they were not to repeat the start of last years great cup run. To the Muppet sitting behind the camera and who complained at every Pontardawe tackle...and had a comment about every referring decision that went against them, take a look at some of the Pontypridd tackles and judge for yourself from the video if the referee was right after all... I think you will find he did quite well. Watch the match action and all of the goals here A DVD of the game is available
